Body Disconnection Therapy in Calgary
What is body disconnection?
Body disconnection can happen when we feel detached or out of touch with our physical selves—when it’s hard to notice, interpret, or trust the sensations, signals, and needs of our body. This can develop from stress, trauma, chronic self-criticism, or simply from living in a fast-paced world that prioritizes doing over being. When we disconnect, we might feel numb, tense, or like we’re “living in our head.” Reconnecting with the body is an important part of healing, as it allows us to access calm, intuition, and a deeper sense of safety within ourselves. Therapy can help you rebuild that relationship gently and with compassion, so your body can once again feel like a place of presence and belonging.
Common Signs & Symptoms:
Feeling numb or detached from your emotions or body sensations
Difficulty recognizing hunger, fatigue, or physical needs
Living primarily in your thoughts, with little body awareness
Feeling tense, “frozen,” or disconnected during stress
Trouble relaxing or feeling safe in your body
Using control, perfectionism, or overthinking to manage discomfort
Experiencing physical symptoms (like headaches or stomach issues) without clear medical causes
These experiences can make it hard to feel grounded or at peace, but with support, you can learn to gently reconnect with your body and feel more whole and present.
