Body Disconnection Therapy in Calgary
What is body disconnection?
Body disconnection happens when we feel numb, tense, or “stuck in our head,” unable to fully notice or trust the signals of our body. This can arise from stress, trauma, self-criticism, or simply living in a world that prioritizes constant doing over presence.
Your body holds wisdom that the mind alone can’t access. When we begin to reconnect with our physical sensations, we can better understand stress, regulate emotions, and feel more grounded and present.
In therapy, we use gentle practices—like breathwork, grounding, movement, sensory awareness, or nature-based approaches—to rebuild this connection. The goal isn’t to “fix” you, but to help your nervous system feel safer and supported, so your body can once again feel like a place of comfort and belonging.
Common Signs & Symptoms:
Feeling numb or detached from your emotions or body sensations
Difficulty recognizing hunger, fatigue, or physical needs
Living primarily in your thoughts, with little body awareness
Feeling tense, “frozen,” or disconnected during stress
Trouble relaxing or feeling safe in your body
Using control, perfectionism, or overthinking to manage discomfort
Experiencing physical symptoms (like headaches or stomach issues) without clear medical causes
These experiences can make it hard to feel grounded or at peace, but with support, you can learn to gently reconnect with your body and feel more whole and present.
